"The Golden Boy", oil on canvas, 2023.
This painting took a long time to complete, on and off over three years. During this period, I ventured into other work, but I still managed to find time to finish some pieces, and this is one of them. To be honest, I wasn’t entirely satisfied with the title "Golden Boy". At the beginning of this year, I finally returned to painting full-time, and I felt that this piece deserved a more powerful, spirited, and confident name—one that carries its own soundtrack, so to speak—to express "I will be back! Bumi is back."
When I finished the painting, the first title I came up with was "The Wanderer Returns", and the second was "Golden Bumi" [grinning]. But I was worried that an overly dramatic name might ruin the painting, so after some consideration, I settled on "Golden Boy". I hope you all like it! Moving forward, I’ll continue to work hard on my art.
Let me introduce the character in my painting—Bumi.
Bumi originates from the Sanskrit word meaning "earth". I’ve been painting him for nearly a decade.
Bumi is a little wanderer, and his eyes are usually closed.
He exists in someone’s dreams. When that person falls asleep, Bumi awakens, and they walk together through that person’s dreams.
Everything Bumi does—whether it’s healing, comforting, or simply clearing away the gloom for those lost in reality—aims to make time a little simpler and a little more fun.
He is Bumi, and I hope he can bring you a bit of peace and joy too!
